On Wednesday, July 29, President Donald Trump announced that he will be sending Federal troops to cities like Albuquerque, and Chicago, as he feels that due to recent protests, those cities along with others have become ridden with violent crimes. By stating that Albuquerque and Chicago have become violent communities, President Trump also explained that he feels that the only way to stop violent crimes from increasing is to send in federal enforcements that will watch over under the President’s orders, “Today I'm announcing a surge of federal law enforcement into American communities plagued by violent crime," said Trump, a Republican who has accused Democratic mayors and governors of tolerating crime waves. "This bloodshed must end — this bloodshed will end," he said.
Understanding why Trump is using law enforcement and the response to it:
It had become clear for the past couple of months that Trump’s narrative and theme for his reelection is a mantle of “Law and Order” as his recent decisions including, sending Federal agents to Albuquerque and Chicago circulate the idea of an increase of federal involvement in cities. The idea of increasing federal involvement seems to be the reason why Trump felt that the only solution to keep violent crimes down is to send in federal agents that would oversee the cities and regulate any crimes that occur, using whatever means necessary to make sure that there will be fewer deaths and no more casualties. However, even though the Trump Administration feels like an increase of Federal involvement will solve all the crime problems of America, not everyone feels like funding the police and sending troops will help the situation, as people like the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, see more Federal involvement as unnecessary and dangerous, "If the Trump administration wishes to antagonize New Mexicans and Americans with authoritarian, unnecessary and unaccountable military-style 'crackdowns,' they have no business whatsoever in New Mexico," Lujan Grisham said in a statement.
Why using Federal enforcements is unnecessary:
This is not the first time that President Trump had threatened or actually sent Federal troops to solve or deal with problems that could’ve been handled by the city’s local government; and even though both Trump and the Trump Administration feels like violence in America can only be solved by federal enforcement, that is not the case as there could have been other ways to handle the increase of “violent crimes” in cities without needing to add more funds to the military or other federal enforcement. The question that arises from this decision, is if Trump is overusing Federal help, and will the theme of “Law and Order” continue to delegate unnecessary help that can potentially be harmful to the public?
